The Lasker History
HISTORICAL BEAUTY AND GLORY
What began as a beautiful home built by the McLemore family around 1870 took a new purpose after the devastating Great Storm of 1900. In 1901, a group of women from various denomination purchased the property for $5,000. Philanthropist Morris Lasker contributed $15,000 for expansion and renovation. In appreciation, the home was renamed The Lasker Home for Homeless Children. From 1900 to 1990, it served as a refuge for children in need.
The property later became home to Heritage Christian Academy and eventually transformed into an elegant event venue.
Following Hurricane Ike, the home sat vacant for four years until Richard and Linda Denson acquired it. They lovingly restored the property to its former beauty and grandeur, reopening it as a charming Bed & Breakfast and event venue. Today, The Lasker Inn is proudly listed on the historic registry of homes.
